The State of the Griffin
Address.
2007-1-22
Greetings Night Creatures!
Well, 2007 is upon us, and now that we are in the New Year, we
should reflect on what we had for the years we had them...and be
thankful for the future.
Prof. Griffin's Midnight Shadow Show is currently still on a fast
development track with Fangoria TV. In fact, there are so many
things being pitched at us right now, it's become obvious that we
simply have no time to keep our hectic production schedule and still
have a personal life of any kind.
So…my dear Night Creatures... after 6 years on local Austin, Texas
Access...Prof. Griffin's Midnight Shadow Show is pulling up stakes.
We have made a very difficult decision to leave the comforts of
local access and attack our national exposure avenues with all our
might.
We've absolutely LOVED being a part of local Austin Television for
nearly 6 years. And we've treasured hosting creepy-creature features
on local cable and bringing these sometimes forgotten classics to
the late-night audiences. But local cable was never planned to be
a permanent home for us, and indeed was always intended to see what
kind of fan base we could acquire with this kind of show and what
kind of response we'd get. In fact, originally we pitched the show
waaay back in 2000 to local stations KNVA 54, K-EYE, and our local
Fox and WB Stations. All presented the same response. `Horror
Hosted Theatres were a thing of the past, and no one would want to
watch, except in October'.
Did we get the message?
Yes, after we premiered weekly on local cable we got the message
loud and clear.
From The Austin Film Festival and an all-night horror-thon
presentation with Tobe Hooper to The Alamo Draft House and the World
Premiere of Freddy vs. Jason, from yearly Goodwill Halloween
promotions to seasonal appearances, official promotions with
Universal Studios, billboards, hosting on Spike TV, national radio
and more. We've always done this for the fans of the horror hosted
genre and that will continue to be the case now…the fan base has
just gotten BIGGER. Much BIGGER…and not just in October! Hehehehe.
Fangoria Entertainment has proven to be a firm, solid home for us.
We've been with Fangoria TV now for almost two years and things have
been really picking up. We've shot many trivia segments and hosted
bits for them, and can be seen every week on Fangoria TV.
Currently, Fangoria TV is an online channel, with over 4 hours of
new free programming to check out each week…with more to come!
We have several new shows now in development (including a Horror
Trivia Game Show, a Horror Talk show, and yes, our very own Horror
Hosted Theatre once again for a national audience).
There is also an original anthology horror series in the works with
Fangoria with original terror tales penned by some of the genre's
best up and comers and with plans to have them all produced here in
Austin by the team at Broom Closet Studios (The Legend of Ghostwolf,
The Magnificent Dead)
So much potential for great new things means that unfortunately we
have to make a move and leave some things behind.
Other recent circumstances has shown us that it was time to move
on.
For example:
The NEW season at PACT starts in February, and one of the sudden
changes to taped shows is that the length (which used to be 59:30)
is now 58:30 to make room for more banners, announcements and
commercials (for programming not product).
But this, in essence, means that ALL of our programming for the past
5 years is no longer within time requirements, which means we either
RE-EDIT all of them to take out a minute of time, or we start
producing new shows like crazy to fill our quota.
Since our schedules simply won't allow that with all the other work
we are up to...we think it's best to start concentrating fully on
the new developments
Upcoming future plans include a series of DVD sets, `The Best of
Prof. Griffin's Midnight Shadow Show' which will showcase the
greatest moments from the 6 years we've been on the air. You'll see
the bumps, the sketches, the trivia…all of it. We've been asked for
YEARS to release our episodes for purchase, and now that's about to
become a reality. Watch our website for information on this
upcoming treat, and of course more updates on convention appearances
Fangoria TV, movies and more.
So now my dear friends, it's off to conquer new horizons and reach a
broader audience with our creepy brand of classic Horror Hosting and
entertainment. We thank you Austin, all the fans, the letters, the
attention, and the love.
Remember, we're still around, Austin will always be our home and
each and every Halloween, look for Griffin, Dan-Dan and Usher to
promote the best Halloween costumes and seasonal fun, and look for
Griffin to teach his yearly class at UT…and of course visit us at
our new home on Fangoria TV.
On behalf of myself and the entire Midnight Shadow Show cast and
crew; Joseph Fotinos, Gilbert Austin, Kim Shafer, Shane Scott, Mike
Wethington, Jim McCaslin, Jim Collier, James Fotinos, Criswell, AND
Prof. Bruno Lampini (Forrest Ackerman)…it's been an incredible
honor. Thank you all.
Not for the last time…
Rest In Peace,
Prof. Anton Griffin.
